Working on the Iacon5000 stadium, I started with a blocking model from Tim Kallok and a ton of great brutalist reference that Prod Designer Jason Scheier had collated for me. Using a lattice, I deformed the model into a more aggressive silhouette. I read the bleacher overhangs as wing-like, and leaned heavily into the avian themes. When I was exploring the pedestal that the stadium sits on, I started to view the whole structure like a giant golden art deco trophy.
The story I tried to tell in designing the Iacon5000's stadium floor was that this was a venue that could host a myriad of events. I wanted the floor to look like it could transform to accommodate a gladiator fight, a demolition derby, or a ninja obstacle gauntlet.
Much of the texture within the panels is inspired by tire tread. For a society where most all have metal feet, I wanted there to be good traction so they could perform at their best.
I explored the floor paneling with simple shaders in Maya, that had varying bump and spec qualities that was fun to paint over in Photoshop.
